PowerPoint Help 2007: Answers to Some Common Questions

powerpoint faqTo any old PowerPoint user, it is quite obvious that the 2007 version of this very popular presentation program is widely different from anything that came before it. The new user interface is just one of the noticeable differences so it is not surprising if an experienced Power Point user would suddenly find that he or she needs some PowerPoint Help in figuring out the latest version.

Fortunately, there is plenty of PowerPoint Help easily available online from Microsoft’s official website to sites of average users. Perhaps one of the most common concerns among users is finding the old commands in the new version’s interface, known as the Ribbon.

The Ribbon is comprised of tabs such as Home, Insert, Design, Animation and etcetera. Each tab consists of several task groups (i.e. Slides, Clipboard) that break into subtasks (i.e. ‘add slide’ or ‘slide layout’ under the Slides task group). Each group has command buttons that run a command or extend to a list of commands. For a complete list of command locations, users may download a mapping workbook of the new interface or

try the interactive guide, both provided in the Microsoft Office website.
Working with sounds in PowerPoint 2007 is another popular topic that may sometimes require some above average PowerPoint Help. Simply adding audio files and clips to your presentations, however, is actually easy. You can insert a sound file like an interview into a presentation by clicking first on the ‘Insert’ tab, then the ‘Media Clips’ group and then the ‘Sound’ command button.

How do I insert sound clips?
To insert sound clips (i.e. applause), which are built into the software, follow the same instructions above but click the ‘Sound’ arrow instead to display the option ‘Sound From Clip Organizer”. Click on this to open a task pane where you can choose the sound clip you want. You can also record sounds or narration within the program and add it to a slide or use a music track from a CD. To do the latter, insert the CD in the CD drive, locate and click the ‘Sound’ arrow and then select ‘Play CD Audio Track’ to open the dialog box where you can enter the start and end track numbers. You can control the volume during presentation and whether the track will be looped. Do not forget that the CD must be in the drive for the song to play during a presentation.

PowerPoint Document Themes:
Another new exciting feature of PowerPoint 2007 is Document Themes, the replacement to the design templates of earlier versions. The Themes in PowerPoint 2007 consist of themes in colors, fonts and effects. Users have the option to apply a built-in theme to a presentation or to create an entirely new theme. Built-in themes can also be modified.

After choosing, creating or editing a theme, one can apply it to a presentation by going to the ‘Design’ tab and clicking the ‘More’ arrow in the ‘Themes’ group. Simply click the theme you want to use under the Built-In option if you are using a built-in theme. The themes you created or modified and saved can be found under the Custom option. Likewise, just click the custom theme you want.

The above-mentioned features are just some of the new ones that PowerPoint 2007 offers. Get all the PowerPoint Help you need from online resources to become familiar with the program and, with patience, you will soon master it.
